- Most plugins in mTools are written in Python. They were developed using Python 2.6 on a 32bit and 64bit Windows Vista. No development and testing has been done on Linux. You must have python 2.6 and above installed in order for the tools to work.
- To get Python 2.6 32bit, it can be download here.
- To install Python for a 64bit workstation Windows or Linux, more information available here.
- You also need to force dynamic dispatching in Python's win32com as described here.

- The files from our Download section are compressed zips Simply unzip to your chosen directory. We recommend that you choose a local location on your workstation.
- Start Softimage and select from the main menu: File -> Plug-in Manager...
- In the Plug-in Manager, select the Workgroup tab and click on the connect button.
- After the "Connect to Workgroups" window appears, click on the "..." button then navigate until you are inside the the mTools directory itself. Click on Select button in the browser.
- The path "%yourlocation%\mTools" should now have appeared in the "Connect to Wokrgroup" window. Click OK.
- Some of the tools may work right off, but some like the custom preferences may not. You may have to restart Softimage in order for them to work correctly

- Go to the main menu and select mTools->Check for updates.
- You must be a registered member, sign-in.
- If a new version of mTools is available, you will be give the choice to update your mTools workgroup.
- If you select yes, the new version will automatically be downloaded from Motience server, then unziped and placed in the same location, next to the old workgroup.
- Click on "Update mTools Workgroup", Note: since the Update mechanism comes also with the new mTools workgroup, disconnecting the old and connect the new workgroup must be done manually.
